Last night (Friday) I went to Astoria, New York. A bunch of us from Group D went to Trevor's apartment to play games and socialize. It was fun. I made some friends along the way in the subway:
"High figh."
Yes, I had relations with a tile mural tween boy. Don't be jealous.
Today I met up at Hudson River Park with Katherine, a girl from my group. We went to Women's Health Day!! The goal was to get out of our comfort zones.
So I did a bungee harness trampoline thingy.
This is me getting extremely nervous.
Katherine and I! She's from Boise, Idaho. She's one of three people in my group to know what a Mormon is.
COMFORT ZONE BREACHED! I did about seven backflips. The crowd around me was cheering. At one point I did two back-to-back-backflips. I didn't want to get down.
Happy. Victorious.
When I finished, the woman operating the bungee said, "I think that's the most fun I've ever seen anybody have in my entire career." I was screaming and laughing and doing every crazy trick I could think of. It was amazing.
Tonight I went to Barnes and Noble for more reading. I have several inspirational quotes, but I'll just share a few. I'm reading "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron and can tell you that this book changes lives. Everyone should read it. Everyone. It is all about discovering creativity, in so many capacities I can't even explain it. Check out the website, or better yet - read the book!
A few things that made me smile, ponder, and/or appreciate:
- In retrospect, I am astounded I could let go of the drama of being a suffering artist. (ha!)
- Leap, and the net will appear.
- There is no such thing as "being done" with an artistic life.
- Many of us find that we have squandered our own creative energies by investing disproportionately in the lives, hopes, dreams, and plans of others.
- We are victims of our own internalized perfectionist, the Censor, who resides in our (left) brain and keeps up a constant stream of subversive remarks that are often disguised as the truth.
Other inspiration:
- "Why indeed must God be a noun? Why not a verb... the most active and dynamic of all?" -Mary Daly
- Every blade of grass has its Angel that bends over it and whispers, "Grow... grow..." -The Talmud
Finally, I have realized that this New York adventure has been virtually NOTHING like I anticipated, in pretty much every sense. Having said that, I couldn't be happier.
So much love... to all....
So glad you're loving The Artist's Way. It's a life-changing book, and you're living a life-changing summer :) love you
