A morbid bit of patriotism...

Here's my anthem for those of you without facebook:

I was walking to my bus stop the other morning and saw this:

And couldn't help thinking of this:

Morbid, I know, but it just came to my mind. I thought it was really interesting, for many reasons, but it ultimately led me to be grateful for the people who fight the good fights.

There's a graveyard in northern France where all the dead boys from D-Day are buried. The white crosses reach from one horizon to the other. I remember looking it over and thinking it was a forest of graves. But the rows were like this, dizzying, diagonal, perfectly straight, so after all it wasn't a forest but an orchard of graves. Nothing to do with nature, unless you count human nature.

  1. Oh my freaking gosh Ali that was an AMAZING performance! You are fabulous I wish I could sing like that! Yeah the Transiberian Orchestra was pretty full of phenomenal talent. I thought of you when the girl sang in echo of the instruments with a really high pitched perfect voice. Thanksgiving was fun, I hope you had a good one! :)
